Introduction
RoguesCulture grew out of writing RoguesInParadise >>>
It was meant to be a project for the Barbados Tourism Encyclopedia — a celebration of the island and its people.
I wanted to capture the spirit of everyday life — the humour, resilience, and beauty that define Barbadians beyond the postcards.
But as the work evolved, editors nudged me to add more — first, history, then heritage, then the deeper story of a people.
Each round pulled me closer to something profound: the living character of Barbados, shaped by struggle and grace.
Then came the hard truth — one editor said, “You’re missing the boat. You must write about racism and the tension beneath the surface.”
That challenge opened my eyes.
As I wrote, I began to feel the quiet disquiet — the unspoken pain, the imbalance between oppressor and oppressed, pride and prejudice, the search for identity within a colonial legacy. Writing about a freed slave under colonial rule, I realised: this story was larger than Barbados.
It was the story of humanity — of all of us.
From that realisation came RoguesCulture — a continuation, not a departure. A space for reflective rebels, seekers of truth, and those who refuse to feed hate with hate. RoguesCulture expands the conversation far beyond the boundaries of my original project. It’s where Rogues in Paradise leaves the shore and sails into deeper waters — where we question, listen, and strive to leave wisdom, not just words, in the global dialogue on heritage and identity.
RoguesCulture is for anyone who’s ever questioned the noise — for thinkers, creators, and ordinary rebels of every age who care more about truth than trends.

– We honour heritage without being trapped by it.
– We choose reflection over retribution.
– We create dialogue, not division.
– We leave wisdom, not just words.

We always:
– Speak from experience, not ego.
– Ask before assuming.
– Seek connection, even in conflict.
We never:
– Feed hate or mock pain.
– Pretend neutrality in the face of injustice.
– Confuse noise for wisdom.
