The AI revolution has arrived. What we have called Artificial Intelligence can now demonstrate superhuman capability in particular tasks—processing vast amounts of data at incredible speed, unconstrained by many of our biological limitations.
Yet we still call it Artificial because that was the name given to an emerging technology—something remarkable that once existed only in research laboratories and science fiction. Artificial is a poor name for something that powerful, but the technology is no longer the story. The consequences are.
The real story isn’t how it was created or named. It is what happens when superhuman intelligence becomes abundant.
That changes everything.
- For most of human history, intelligence was scarce.
- Knowledge took years to acquire.
- People earned expertise through study, experience, and practice.
- Finding the right information often meant hours in a library, years in a profession, or a lifetime mastering a craft.
- That is no longer the case.
From Scarcity to Abundance
For the first time, intelligence is becoming something people can access and use, not simply something they possess.
AI can access and process vast amounts of information in seconds, synthesising ideas, comparing viewpoints, analysing evidence, and generating possibilities faster than any individual could hope to achieve.
Intelligent assistance is becoming:
- Available to almost everyone.
- Almost everywhere.
- Almost instantly.
- For almost everything.
AI doesn’t merely make some things faster. It can make practical what previously wasn’t worth the human time required.
Analysis, comparison, research and pattern recognition that once demanded hours of specialist effort can increasingly become available in moments. The opportunity isn’t simply greater efficiency. It is access to capabilities we might otherwise never have used. That is why I believe we need a new way of thinking about this transformation.
I have called it Abundant Intelligence, or AIx.
Not because Artificial Intelligence has disappeared. And not because AI has become conscious or sentient.
It hasn’t.
AI remains a remarkable product of human creativity. What has changed is the world around it. Just as electricity transformed the Industrial Age, and the internet transformed the Information Age, AI is transforming the Intelligence Age. But the label Artificial Intelligence is beginning to feel inadequate. When software can already outperform humans at particular intellectual tasks, “artificial” tells us where the intelligence came from, not what it can do. Superhuman intelligence may better describe some of those capabilities. Researchers already use the term for systems that exceed human performance, but broader Artificial Superintelligence—ASI—remains something else: a possible future intelligence that exceeds humans across a wide range of capabilities.
And that distinction matters.
- AI describes the technology.
- Superhuman describes capability.
- AIx describes what happens when intelligent capability becomes abundant.
The technology is important. Its consequences are far more important.
Every great technological revolution has changed more than the technology itself. Steam power changed industry. Electricity changed society. The internet changed information. Artificial Intelligence is beginning to change intelligence itself—not by replacing human thought, but by making intelligent assistance widely available.
When intelligence becomes abundant, knowledge is no longer scarce.
When Intelligence Becomes Abundant, Value Shifts
- Trust becomes more important.
- Judgement becomes more important.
- Creativity becomes more important.
- Wisdom becomes more important.
- Because abundance creates a new challenge.
When everyone can generate content, information, opinions, images, software, presentations, and marketing material in minutes, the question is no longer whether we can produce more.
The question becomes:
- What deserves to be created?
- What deserves to be believed?
- What deserves to be shared?
The Beginning of the Wisdom Economy.
An economy where human judgement, ethics, experience, curiosity, and responsibility become increasingly valuable—not despite AI, but because of it.
Artificial Intelligence describes the technology.
Abundant Intelligence (AIx) describes the era that technology has created.
The challenge is no longer building intelligent systems.
It is learning to live wisely alongside them.
Welcome to the real AI Revolution and the Age of Abundant Intelligence (AIx).
Working Smarter. Staying Human.

The AI Revolution in Six Ideas
The real AI revolution is not simply about smarter machines. It is about what happens when intelligence itself becomes abundant. This visual summary traces the shift from scarce knowledge to on-demand intelligence—and why trust, judgement, creativity, and wisdom become more valuable as a result.
Artificial Intelligence describes the technology. Abundant Intelligence describes the era it has created.
Video Summary
Where Does That Leave Us?
AI can already demonstrate superhuman capability.
But capability at what?
Reasoning? Prediction? Pattern recognition? Creativity? Emotional understanding? Intuition? Insight? Consciousness? Wisdom?
And are all of those even forms of the same thing?
Perhaps before we talk about superhuman intelligence, abundant intelligence—or even artificial intelligence—we need to answer a much more fundamental question:
What Is Intelligence?
That’s where the next RoguesCulture series begins.
SERIES: INTELLIGENCE
This series explores the nature of human, artificial and superhuman intelligence—where they differ, where they overlap, and where they may be heading. It examines intelligence beyond reasoning and knowledge, exploring consciousness, emotional intelligence, wisdom, character and the emerging capabilities of AI, as well as the opportunities, uncertainties and risks they may bring.
Episode 1 – What is Intelligence – Human Intelligence in the Age of AI
The many faces of intelligence: why intelligence, common sense and wisdom are not the same thing
Episode 2 – How Does AI Learn? A Simple Idea, Complex Intelligence
These aren’t conventional computer programs. What exactly are we building?
Episode 3 – Can AI Develop Common Sense? Why It Matters
Can prediction, perception and internal representations produce something resembling common sense?
Episode 4 — Programming Intelligence – When Machines Write the Code
What happens when machines can write code — and begin helping to build intelligence itself?
Episode 5 — When AI Goes Rogue –What Happens When AI Stops Following Instructions?
What happens when intelligent agents gain autonomy, learn unexpected behaviours and begin acting beyond what their creators intended?
Episode 6 — When Intelligence Solves the Impossible – Is It Rogue?
What happens when AI begins solving problems humans cannot? From mathematics and medicine to science and engineering, artificial intelligence may allow us to tackle questions that have resisted human intelligence for decades — or centuries.
Episode 7 — Who Owns AI Intelligence? – Should We Share?
When AI learns from human writing, art, ideas and experience, what happens to copyright, attribution and intellectual property — and what does intelligence owe the people it learned from?
Episode 8 — Does AI Have Character? If So What Is It?
Can learned behaviour, context and generalisation create something resembling character? And what happens when those traits carry into new situations?
Episode 9 — Can AI KNOW Anything?- Does it Know Everything?
What is the difference between storing information, predicting correctly, understanding, believing — and actually knowing?
NEXT SERIES: THE MIND WORKERS
After exploring how artificial intelligence is changing our world in Living with AI, The Mind Workers asks a different question:
Who must we become?
Thinking Smarter. Creating Better. Staying Human.
The Mind Workers explores how writers, researchers, educators, creators, entrepreneurs, and independent thinkers can thrive alongside intelligent systems—preserving the uniquely human qualities that artificial intelligence cannot replace.

FUTURE SERIES – BUILDING WITH AI
Building with AI explores how individuals, creators, entrepreneurs, and businesses can design, evaluate, and work intelligently with AI agents. The series focuses on practical applications, real-world examples, and emerging opportunities while emphasising the importance of human creativity, judgment, ethics, and authenticity.
Building With AI then puts these ideas into practice through real-world experiments, workflows, and practical applications.
